Getting started

Get started in 15 minutes

This walkthrough helps you reach the smallest safe first result in Signalist. You will check the essentials, choose a suitable lead source, build a small test list, review lead quality, and reach the message review stage.

This guide stops before anything is activated or sent. Use it to understand the workflow and prepare a controlled review, not to launch outreach.

Before you start

  • A clearly defined target audience
  • A usable data source or input, such as a small XLSX file or another source supported in your workspace
  • Access to the relevant Signalist workspace
  • A designated person who will approve the final review
  • Internal approval before connecting any email or LinkedIn account

Access to Signalist does not automatically mean you can send messages. User access, sender permissions, and connected accounts are separate checks.

The focused 15-minute workflow

The goal is to move through the shortest safe path: check setup, choose a source, review a small list, inspect scoring, and stop at review. You do not need to configure every feature for this first pass.

  1. Check the available onboarding or configuration progress.
Open the workspace and look for any onboarding or configuration flow available in your setup. Depending on your workspace setup, this may include guidance around lead scoring, research, Knowledge Base review, copy review, connected senders, or a product tour. Use it to identify missing essentials, but do not try to complete every optional configuration step before your first review workflow.

  2. Confirm your role and account status.
Open the relevant user and company settings area and verify whether you are set up only as a user or also as a sending user, if that distinction exists in your workspace. Then check whether the required email or LinkedIn account is connected if your planned channel depends on it. If you do not have internal approval to connect an account, stop here and get approval first.

  3. Choose a source that matches your input.
Start from the input you already have. If you already have names, companies, job titles, or profile data, choose a source that fits that input. For a first safe run, use a small, representative test list. A small XLSX file is a good option when file upload is available in your workspace. An empty test list may also be suitable if your current source and UI support that flow.

  4. Keep the first list small.
Do not start with a large list or a broad recurring source. Your first run should be easy to inspect manually. The purpose is to confirm data quality and workflow behaviour, not to maximize volume.

  5. Review scoring instead of over-configuring it.
Open the lead scoring area and review the existing Company and Persona logic. For a first pass, keep this simple. You are checking whether the workspace is using reasonable company-fit and persona-fit logic, not building a complex scoring model from scratch. If your workspace already applies lead priorities such as P1, P2, P3, or DQ, treat them as review inputs rather than automatic approval.

  6. Inspect at least five representative leads.
Open your list and manually review a small sample. Check whether each lead has the data you need and whether the result makes sense for your use case. At a minimum, inspect:

    • available data
    • company fit
    • persona fit
    • lead priority
    • signal context, if present
    • any exclusion reason

If several sample leads look wrong, pause and fix the source, scoring logic, or exclusions before going further.

  7. Open the review area and verify message readiness.
Go to the applicable review area in your workspace and check the prepared message and status for sample leads. Verify the sender, channel, recipient, message content, and current status. If your workspace includes a review flow for leads before outreach, use that area as your final checkpoint.

  8. Stop before activation or sending.
Do not activate a campaign. Do not click any action that starts outreach unless the responsible person has completed the final review and approved the sender, audience, channel, limits, and preview.

Troubleshooting

ProblemSolution
I cannot find my list.Check whether your workspace separates personal, team, or broader list views. Review each available view, then check ownership, team visibility, and whether the list was created in a different workspace.
I cannot connect or select a sender.Check several possibilities rather than assuming one cause. Confirm your user role, sending permission, connected-account status, selected channel, and whether the list or campaign is assigned correctly. Access to the platform alone does not confirm sender availability.
The scoring or research step is still processing.Wait for the current process to finish before changing multiple settings. Depending on your workspace setup, scoring, research, or draft generation may complete in the background. Do not treat “still processing” as a failure unless the status does not change after a reasonable review interval defined by your team.
I cannot find the expected review action.Review flows may vary by workspace and setup. Look for the review area associated with leads, campaign preparation, or message review. If the expected action is missing, confirm whether the lead has the right status, is assigned to the correct list or campaign, and has a valid sender and channel available.
I am not sure whether activating this will send messages.Stop and confirm with the responsible reviewer before proceeding. If the action could activate outreach and the UI wording is unclear, do not continue until you have checked the sender, status, channel, limits, and preview together with the designated approver.

Frequently asked questions

Can I complete this workflow without activating outreach?
Yes. This guide intentionally stops at the review stage. Do not activate a campaign or start sending until the responsible person has approved the audience, sender, channel, limits, and message preview.

How large should my first test list be?
Keep it small enough to inspect manually. Use a representative sample that lets you check data quality, company fit, persona fit, priorities, signals, and exclusions before you increase the volume.

Do I need to connect an email or LinkedIn account before reviewing leads?
Not necessarily. You can review the source, list quality, scoring, and lead data first. A connected account is required only when the intended channel depends on it, and you should obtain internal approval before connecting one.

What should I check before activating a campaign?
Confirm the target audience, sender, connected account, channel, applicable limits, message content, preview, and recorded human approval. If any item is unclear, stop before activation.

What should I do if several sample leads look wrong?
Pause the workflow and correct the source, scoring logic, or exclusions before continuing. Do not compensate for poor lead quality by increasing the list size.
